Founded in 1984 by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin in a NYU dorm room, Def Jam built hip-hop into a global empire. Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, DMX, Kanye West, Rihanna, Nas. From bringing rap to MTV with 'Walk This Way' to defining the sound of multiple generations, Def Jam didn't just sell records—it shaped culture, fashion, and the sound of rebellion.
